MEDICAL EXCUSES:
  • Parent note - 1-3 day(s) - students are still required to dress out (to receive 5 pts).  Student will not be penalized for non-participation.  Continuous excuses for not taking part in class will result in a lower grade.
  • A doctor's note is required when a student is excused for more than 3 days.  If possible the student should still dress out to receive those points for the time they cannot participate.  The doctor's note should include: limitations, duration, and adapted PE if possible.  Students who cannot participate for extended periods will be assigned 1-3 projects - (please remember that PE is a participatory class and physical participation is necessary to receive the highest grade.
FIRST AID:
  • All injuries MUST be reported to a coach in the class.  Students should NOT go to Student Services without an accident report from their PE teacher.  
  • PARENTS: PLEASE REMEMBER IF YOUR STUDENT DOES NOT TELL US WE CANNOT FOLLOW PROPER PROCEDURES TO HELP THEM.
VALUABLES:
  • STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIER OWN VALUABLES.  EVERYTHING MUST BE LOCKED UP IN YOUR LOCKER BEFORE LEAVING THE LOCKER ROOM.  
  • Electronic devices are NOT allowed and will be taken and locked in the safe in the front office until your parent comes to school to get it.
  • COACHES ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ITEMS:  DO NOT SHARE LOCKERS, LOCKER COMBINATIONS OR HAVE YOUR ITEMS IN AN UNLOCKED LOCKER.

Principles of Training

JWJ Physical Education Department follows the Duval County Schools approved curriculum.  All classes fitness level
(except Outdoor Pursuits and Extreme Sports) will be followed with the Fitness Gram.


GRADING SCALE:
Points will be accumulated throughout the grading period:  Grades are based on a percentage.

Dress Out:                                               5pts. (daily)          35% total grade (student must be
fully dressed out - no partial  credit)
Participation:                                          5pts (daily)          35% total grade  (based on full
participation for total class.)
PE Journal (Reading & Literature 
Components)                                          5 pts (per check)  10% total grade
Motor Abilities (skill test)                    5 pts                        10% total grade (This includes
completion of all Fitness Gram test)
Cognitive Knowledge                           100pts                     10% total grade (Written test)


Scholarship Warning:   Every 41/2 week the school will issue progress reports.  These will
count as a warning for any student with a grade lower than a "C".  If improvement isn't
made or a student becomes in danger of failing the course, additional warning will be sent
home.  Parents please use FOCUS to stay abreast of your students progress in every class.


DISCIPLINE POLICY

In order to assure the safety of ALL students and optimal learning it is paramount that students follow all rules and regulations in the locker room and gym area.

1st Offense - WARNING - student will be pulled aside and talk to coach to make sure they understand what
they need to correct and what is expected of them in class.

2nd Offense -  REMOVAL - student will be removed from that day's participation, which will result in loss of
participaton points for that day.  If a student can not follow directions they are a  safety hazard to other students.

3rd Offense - PARENTAL -  student and/or teacher will call parent to infomr them of student's behavior.

4th Offense - REFERRAL - student will receive a disciplinary referral.
