“Surf's Up Alimacani”
We have so much learning going on in Kindergarten!  
In Language Arts we started a new Author Study on Jan Brett and working on cause and effect as well as sequencing.  We are Questioning while reading, rhyming and sequencing beginning, middle and end, working on letter names and sounds, CVC words and continuing to work on our FRY words and learning many skills and strategies to help
 us become great reader's!    
In Math we are working with numbers 1-30 and counting to 100.  We are counting objects to 30.  We just started a new unit on measuring.  We have discussed longer and shorter and heavier and lighter.
In science we are finishing up a unit on matter and making observations as well as coninuing to learn about what  scientists do.
In Writing, we are using our 5 star checklist to check our writing and putting characters and setting into our writing.  We just finished up our unit on How to and have begun Opinion Writing.   They love to write and are having so much fun! They are great at sharing with their peers and giving 5 Star Compliments to their buddies!

       Kindergarten is AMAZING!   This is one of the most important years of your child’s academic career, a time when attitudes toward school are formed.  Since Kindergarten helps build a foundation for learning, we can begin to build a strong foundation by working together toward the same goals for the benefit of your child.  With this in mind, here are some expectations, and guidelines that will make you and your child’s introduction to school a positive experience.

   Welcome and Introductions
My name is Tracy Beck and I have been a teacher for 15 years, 11 of those teaching Kindergarten.  Kindergarten is my love!  I am a graduate of University of Maryland and have a Bachelors in Elementary Education.  My husband graduated from The Naval Academy and we have two beautiful children.  Carson is 14 and Kylie is 11.  I am so excited to be teaching your child this year and providing them with meaningful experiences that will develop a lifelong love for learning.  Kindergarten is a time of new beginnings, of making friends, and of learning lots of new things each and every day.  Our days and weeks will be filled with many wonderful experiences and opportunities for learning and growing.  I truly want their first year of elementary school to be a positive experience!  I’m looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your child.
