Ms. Dobson’s Algebra 1 Honors class (2020-2021)

You are on the fast track so you will completed both Algebra 1 and Geometry before high school.  This means that this course counts as credit on your high school transcript and will factor in to your for college applications.   Your EOC (end of course) exam will count as 30% of your final grade and the 4 quarter grades will be the other 70%.  This means keeping up and understanding as we progress through the course is critical.
This course will deepen your understanding of linear, quadratic, and exponential relationships by comparing and contrasting them with each other. You will analyze, solve, and use functions and models to observe data trends.

The following units are included in the course:
  • Unit 1- Relationships between Quantities and Reasoning with Equations
  • Unit 2- Linear and Exponential Relationships
  • Unit 3- Descriptive Statistics
  • Unit 4- Expressions and Equations
  • Unit 5- Quadratic Functions and Modeling
Detailed information about each Unit:  http://www.cpalms.org/Public/PreviewCourse/Preview/13011

Honors Algebra 1 is a high school course and you will receive Honors Credit that will be on their transcript when applying for colleges.

All work is expected to be completed and turned in by the assigned due date. Work not turned in by the assigned date will result in a zero, and/or another penalty, to be determined by the teacher.

Completing the survey is an assignment for your student (due August 28th), so expect them to bug you to get it done.   :)       Thanks for your help.

Required supplies:
  • Notebook (looseleaf in a binder or bound),
  • folder with pockets (to store papers),
  • pencils,
  • calculator (TI-30Xa).

Since part or all of the work is done at home I am not differentiating between Home and Classwork.  The grades are 30% work and 70% assessment.  Students will be assessed in the classroom where possible.  Students in Duval Homeroom may receive a cumulative assessment when returning to the classroom.

This is a fast pace course and requires a high level of dedication to stay current.

Welcome to Algebra!  It’s going to be a great year!!!
