Updates and Information for ELA and Intensive Language Arts
Home Reading Logs due every Monday.
Students should be reading at least 20 minutes per night. The reading logs need to be signed by a parent or guardian to receive credit.
You can print one from this website, from FOCUS or I can email you one if you contact me. Students can also fill out their own reading log on their own paper with the name of the book, pages read, short summary, date read and parent signature. My email address is beachemg@duvalschools.org.
Achieve
I will be assigning "Reading Assignments" in Achieve based on indivdual student needs. They can check their Achieve Inbox to view them. Students should complete the article quiz activities during school hours. If they complete the activitiy at home, those scores will not count to increase their reading lexile.
However, students can respond to the Thought Questions for the articles at home.
Reading Lexiles
I will be sending my ELA students home with Data Chat slips with their reading lexile in Achieve and reading level in iLit. Look for them before the end of this week (10/24). Please make a note of their data and sign the slip so they can return it to me.
Tutoring Every Tuesday
I am still offering tutoring on Tuesdays from 3:20 to 5:00. Students need to be picked up promptly by 5:00. Students should report to the gym after school where I pick them up. I will work with students on writing ,editing and revisions, understanding and completing any class assignments, iLit, Achieve, grade recovery and completing their 20 minutes of "home reading" for that day, I will sign off on it.

Welcome! I am excited to have the opportunity to teach your students. I am a third year teacher at Kirby Smith Middle School. I graduated from the University of North Florida after transferring from The University of Miami. So I am an Osprey and a Cane at heart. I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science with an English minor and took several graduate courses in English as well. My hobbies include chasing after my two sons, who are 8 and 6, reading, writing and traveling.
